D&D Beyond dice roller not working? Fixes and stopgaps
Quick answer: when D&D Beyond dice stop showing up, it's almost always one of four things: an ad blocker or privacy extension eating the dice scripts, a stale cache, digital dice toggled off in the sheet settings, or an outage on their side. The incognito test below sorts out which in under a minute.
Fix 1: the incognito test (finds the cause fastest)
Open an incognito or private window with extensions disabled, log in, and try to roll. Two outcomes:
- Dice work in incognito: an extension or your cache is the culprit. Go to Fix 2 and 3.
- Dice still broken: it's the dice setting (Fix 4), your browser (Fix 5), or D&D Beyond itself (Fix 6).
Fix 2: whitelist D&D Beyond in your ad blocker
The 3D dice load as separate scripts, and blockers regularly flag them. Add dndbeyond.com to your ad blocker's allowlist (uBlock: click the shield, hit the big power button for the site). Privacy tools like Ghostery, Brave Shields, and Safari's tracker prevention can do the same thing, so if you run one, allow the site there too.
Fix 3: hard refresh and clear site cache
After a D&D Beyond update, an old cached script can break the roller. Hard refresh with Ctrl+Shift+R (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac). If that's not enough, clear cookies and cache for dndbeyond.com only, then log back in.
Fix 4: check the digital dice toggle
On the character sheet, open the settings (gear icon) and make sure Digital Dice is enabled. It gets switched off by accident more often than you'd think, especially on the mobile app, where the toggle lives in the same sheet settings.
Fix 5: try another browser, and update the app
If you're on Safari, test in Chrome or Firefox; Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention has broken the dice before. On mobile, force-close the app, install any pending update, and if the dice are still gone, delete and reinstall. The white screen and broken image icon reported by app users usually clears with a reinstall.
Fix 6: it might be D&D Beyond, not you
Outages happen, and the dice service can break while the rest of the site looks fine. Check the D&D Beyond subreddit or their social accounts; when it's widespread, reports appear within minutes. No browser fix helps here, you just need a stopgap until it passes.
Stopgaps: keep the session moving
Broken dice shouldn't end game night. Keep the D&D Beyond sheet open for stats and roll elsewhere:
| Stopgap | Good when |
|---|---|
| Physical dice | Everyone is at the same table |
| Discord dice bot (e.g. Avrae) | Your table already runs on Discord |
| DiceDND shared room | Remote or hybrid table that wants every roll visible to everyone, live, with no accounts |
With DiceDND, one player opens a room, shares the link, and every roll shows up for the whole table in the browser. It's free with no signup, so it works as a 30-second stopgap mid-session, and some groups keep using it next to the D&D Beyond sheet afterward.
